Face swap should be free.
And private.
We built GIF Face Swap because every existing tool either charged a subscription, demanded an account, added watermarks, or uploaded your photos to a cloud server. We decided to build something better.
Our mission
To make AI face swap GIF technology accessible to everyone — at zero cost and with zero compromise on privacy. We believe that powerful creative tools should not require users to sacrifice their biometric data or pay a monthly subscription fee.
This is why we invested in on-device AI: the neural models run entirely inside your browser. Your portrait photos and GIF files are never uploaded anywhere. When you close the tab, the session is gone.
How we are funded
GIF Face Swap is supported by non-intrusive display advertising. We do not sell your data, offer paid tiers, or place ads in your exported GIFs. The advertising revenue covers CDN costs for hosting the model weights and the ongoing development of the tool.
We think this is the right trade-off: a small number of display ads on the page in exchange for a completely free, watermark-free, account-free creative tool.

On-Device AI
We run ~293 MB of neural network weights directly in your browser using WebGPU and WebGL. Model weights are cached after the first visit for instant repeat sessions.

Technology
The face swap pipeline is built on open-source AI research and browser-native compute APIs. Every component runs on your device.
- MediaPipe FaceMesh
- Google’s open-source 478-point facial landmark model. Runs in-browser via JavaScript, detects faces in every GIF frame and provides precise geometry for the swap region.
- MobileFaceSwap
- A lightweight SimSwap-derived face generation model (~50 MB). Generates realistic face replacements conditioned on the source identity, matching the pose and lighting of the target GIF frame.
- ArcFace Identity Encoder
- A face recognition model that encodes the source portrait into a compact identity vector. This vector conditions MobileFaceSwap to preserve the correct facial identity across all GIF frames.
- ONNX Runtime Web
- Microsoft’s open-source inference engine for running ONNX models in the browser. Provides WebGPU and WebGL backends for GPU-accelerated inference without any server-side compute.
